Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ dissertation writing fellow and anthropology Ph.D. candidate John Ostermiller's dissertation fieldwork on Muslim migrant communities in Japan is featured in the American Anthropology Association's March-April issue of Anthropology News. John's article, discusses how local Japanese perceptions of skin color, culture and religion shape the lives of Muslim migrants in Japanese society.
Between 2023 and 2024 Ostermiller conducted 10 months of ethnographic fieldwork in Shizuoka, Japan, which was supported by the Kobe College Corporation-Japan Education Exchange, Wenner Gren Foundation, the University of Nevada's Ozmen Institute and the Department of Anthropology's Promise Award.
